3 Reasons You Want to Try Invisalign This Spring

If you think you have to suffer through the pain and discomfort of braces to get the straighter smile you’ve always wanted, think again. The Invisalign® teeth straightening system makes it easier than ever to improve your smile, and it’s discreet, too.

Here's why Invisalign aligners can be a better option than metal braces.

At Plainsboro Family Dentistry, we’re big fans of Invisalign. Samir Patel, DDS, and the rest of our team want you to know these three facts.

1. Invisalign uses advanced technology for predictable results

Your Invisalign appointment starts when Dr. Patel takes a dental impression of your mouth. He uses these impressions to create a mold of your teeth. Then Invisalign uses a computer-aided design system to produce a set of aligners just for your mouth. These aligners shift your teeth in tiny increments of 0.25 to 0.33 millimeters

The beauty of Invisalign aligners is that you can remove them whenever you want, especially before drinking and eating. But to get the best results from aligners, you must wear them for at least 22 hours each day.

2. Invisalign makes it easy to practice good oral hygiene

Having a mouthful of metal brackets and wires makes it hard to brush and floss, which makes it a chore to practice good oral hygiene when you have traditional braces. Unfortunately, this can promote tooth decay.

With Invisalign, you simply brush and floss your teeth before inserting aligners, making it easy to maintain good oral health.

3. Invisalign aligners use SmartTrack® material

We use clear and flexible SmartTrack plastic to make your Invisalign aligners and help you get the smile you want faster. This material makes them nearly invisible and much more comfortable than metal braces, but it’s also prone to staining from some foods and beverages.

To prevent staining, you should avoid drinking

Don’t worry — you don’t have to skip your morning latte. Just remove aligners before drinking, and brush them before putting them back in your mouth. You can also sip your favorite beverages through a straw, which keeps them from coming in contact with your aligners.

When to consider Invisalign

Invisalign is an effective option for teeth that need mild to moderate straightening. And while they can correct several dental issues, they aren’t for everyone. Traditional braces might be a better solution if you have gaps between your teeth larger than 5.0 millimeters or crooked teeth due to skeletal or joint issues in your jaw.
